Witness

Many United Methodist congregations organize themselves to accomplish the three main areas of ministry: Nurture, Witness, and Outreach. While McUMC has adopted this format for its organization, our goal is not to evangelize for the member churches of the Cooperative Ministry. Instead, we focus on preaching of the Gospel beyond the local churches of Marshall County.

The Witness work area leads the effort in our Campground Ministry. Local churches in the Lakeland area have been providing lay speakers and pastors alike to witness to travelers abiding in our area. In the numerous RV parks found in our area, every campground has a Vesper ring. Some have benches mounted in the ground. Others have split logs resting on stones. A few have a lectern mounted permanently. Every campground welcomes a preacher each weekend. The preacher makes the rounds of the camp, visiting each campsite and offering a personal invitation to the worship service on Sunday morning. During the service, there is singing and prayer. And of course, the Word is read and preached.

Other endeavors of the Witness Committee include evangelism training seminars for the member churches, and encouragement of support for District and Conference training in the areas of evangelism and education.
